Purpose. Sets the single method for raising, prioritising, performing and closing maintenance work orders on simulators, plant and materials handling equipment at every site.

1.Raising a work order

Any staff member who identifies a fault or a preventive task due must raise a work order in the Maintenance Work Orders system before work starts. The work order must identify the asset, the site, the category, the priority and a clear description of the fault or task. Preventive tasks will be raised automatically from the maintenance schedule at the start of each month.

2.Priority

Priority 1 applies to a fault that stops a contracted training activity or creates a safety hazard and must be responded to within four hours. Priority 2 applies to a fault that degrades capability and must be responded to within two working days. Priority 3 applies to preventive and cosmetic work and will be scheduled within the month.

  • Priority 1: response within 4 hours
  • Priority 2: response within 2 working days
  • Priority 3: scheduled within the month

3.Assignment and isolation

The maintenance lead will assign each work order to a technician with the competency recorded in the training register for that equipment. Before work starts the technician must isolate energy sources as required, attach a personal lock and tag, and complete or confirm the job safety analysis for the task. Simulator motion systems must be pinned before anyone enters the motion envelope.

4.Performing the work

The technician will follow the manufacturer maintenance manual and the relevant work instruction. Parts used must be recorded with their part number and batch. Where a fault cannot be rectified with the parts and time available, the work order must be placed on hold with the reason and the customer informed through the maintenance lead.

5.Testing and return to service

Equipment must be tested against the acceptance criteria in the work instruction before it is returned to service. For simulators this includes a functional check of the systems affected and, for motion or visual systems, an operator confirmation run. The test result must be recorded on the work order.

6.Closing the work order

The work order will be closed only when the description of work, parts used, test result and time taken have been entered and the maintenance lead has reviewed the record. Closed work orders form the availability and response time evidence reported monthly under the contract.
